Eyes

Like looking through windows of glass,
My gaze meets yours.
Though I wish you could not see my eyes,
I am afraid you will read my mind.

I look away,
That familiar, cold, unbearable stare.
It frightens me,
Can you see right through me?

I feel my body numb.
Conversing with you,
Calming and comforting,
Yet I'm overcome with uneasiness.

If I could look long enough,
If I could comprehend your expressions,
Maybe I could begin to understand,
to read your mind.

Your complicated personality,
It fascinates me.
If only I could look long enough,
And not be afraid.
