Description
So, summer finally started, so I've had some time to do some drawing. I'm trying some new techniques for digital painting, and I think I have improved quite a bit. I would really like to be as good as I'm doing a series of realistic portraits to improve anatomy and digital technique. Yes I know, so original, but it's better than nothing.
This is a drawing of Robert Carlyle as Nicholas Rush from Stargate Universe. I know that a lot of people had problems with the series, but I thought it was alright. Sure, the writing could have been a lot better, but it is a new show. I felt like they used some of the same ideas over again, but it certainly is better than watching men tackle each other on Syfy. I mean seriously, what is our problem? We'd rather watch wrestling on Syfy instead of SGU.
To draw this, it took me about three days. I used Photoshop CS3 and my Wacom Intuos 3. I used a grid to help me, and I also drew under the lines, which is new for me in doing realistic portraits.
Edit I fixed a couple of things, such as the eyes and the jaw. I'm really bored with the background, so I was wondering what I should do with it? Any suggestions. I don't want anything too bright, but the grey is quite boring.

Untill i read you did this is photoshop i thought it was oil pastels on canvas. I think you have done a wonderful job with this person, it look just like him. The tones in the face and jacket are wonderful!
The only thing I feel could be changed is the delpth in the white shirt. it looks like you forgot to add detail there. that and the hand looks flat and small. I guess plumping up the hand could help with that.
All in all it is a wonderful portait. well done.
I look forward to seeing more portaits from you!
